How does mediven travel work?
Mediven travel exerts accurately dosed and defined pressure on the tissues of the calf, which is furthest from the heart. The pressure diminishes evenly from the foot upwards to the knee. This dosed compression reduces the diameter of the veins, which in turn accelerates the flow of blood back toward the heart. The blood can no longer coagulate so easily.
Every small movement you make while wearing mediven travel also reinforces the "pump effect" of the calf muscles, which is also helped by the stocking's mode of action.
Active prophylaxis against travel thrombosis
Flying increases the risk of thrombosis:
- applies equally to first, business, and economy class passengers
- insufficient fluids cause the blood to thicken
- drinking alcohol causes the body to lose water
- low relative humidity dries the body out
Deadly hazard in the luggage: A study has led doctors to believe that over 2,000 airline passengers die every year in Britian from the so-called "economy class syndrome". (from: Speigel online 10 January 2001)
